It’s coming….

We are just a couple of days away until the 2014 Australian Ice Hockey League Finals.

Four of the best teams this season will begin their battle for the Goodall Cup on Saturday. Which four will be the last two standing? On current form the two strongest sides coming into the finals are the Mustangs Brave, followed very closely by the Ice Dogs. As for the Ice; their back-to-back losses in the closing weekend of the regular season seems them drop off the pace slightly, however they are one of the more experienced teams in terms playing finals.

All four teams are playing their semis on Saturday; The Mustangs will play the Ice Dogs; a good follow up from their regular season battle last week, with Sydney taking the victory in a shootout. They will also have great memories of their last trip to Melbourne in the finals; firstly knowing out the previous defending champions’ Melbourne Ice and then easily defeating the Newcastle North Stars in the final.

Melbourne Ice, have the task of playing against the Canberra Brave, and they’ll be thankful they dodge facing the Ice Dogs; momentarily that semi final last year between them was certainly one full of high intensity and a few hot tempers. Playing the Brave this time puts the Ice in a position to play fairy tale spoiler by knocking out Canberra. Their closing weekend allowed them to pick up a boosting win against the last-placed Bears after missing out on points and moving up the table a little bit the previous weekend. The Brave have certainly kept to their namesake this season; and if they do what many are hoping it will be one of the greatest stories to come out of this year’s AIHL season for sure.

We are all looking forward to it and we hope you are too. Bring on the weekend!
